Disillusioned, he leaves the country and wanders the world in search of the meaning of his good intentions, his unique abilities, and their consequences. Revolving around the notion that power is not without responsibility, nor without repercussions, this story speaks to every child's dream of freeing themselves from the endless control of adults, and shaping the world to their own designs. Overall, once into the book I could soon see that it is basically a fable, a morality tale. His story is quite enjoyable.

I knew the book was incomplete so that part didn't bother me, but I didn't care for the unexpected gaps. Korczak, with his characteristic love and caring, introduces us to Kaytek as a boy who likes to make bets, both as a thrill seeker and as someone naughty but clever enough to use the bets to earn easy money through trickery. You need to strengthen your will power. Though harmless at first, Kaytek's antics and increasing abilities soon wreak major chaos around the city of Warsaw, and the police start searching for the cause.

KAYTEK THE WIZARD
It's a rather odd book, and an unfinished one literally--it just ends in the middle of the action without any kind of conclusionbut I'm not sorry to have read it, although I very much doubt I'll ever want to read it again.
I think the author was writing for his children and those few things that disturbed me probably were meant to be relatable to his audience. Magdalith rated it liked it Sep 15, At first, Kaytek acts as a selfish child, wiard his power for mischief.
I advise reading it for historical context, but don't expect a modern adventure. He is a boy who is very clever, too easily distracted, full of energy and questions, disruptive, and in general what we might say today as hyperactive or even ADHD. This was a painful read. We all grew up with similar books and stories, this one just happens to be more in depth and with more to say.
Overall a book worth reading.
